I tried dragging the files out of the Trash into a new folder on the Time Machine drive and on a different external drive. I tried simply dragging the backup files that hadn’t been fully deleted out of the Trash and back into the Time Machine folder they came from. Restoring the Time Machine backups back into Time Machine I still retained a few of the Time Machine backups in the Trash. I stopped the trash emptying but most of the files had been deleted. As I was “emptying” the trash, I realized I had deleted to many. I was cleaning up an old MacBook Pro and trashed files from the Time Machine backup that were many years old.
